About us

The Finnish Sauna Society is a cultural association founded in 1937 to foster the heritage of the national bath. The Society has around 4200 members. The function of the Finnish Sauna Society is to preserve the traditional native sauna culture, spread information about it, correct wrong impressions about the sauna, emphasize the meaning of sauna bathing for a healthy life and also to develop the sauna of the present day. To achieve its goals the Society, among other things, publishes information in various forms, organizes seminars and symposiums, supports and initiates scientific research and maintains a traditional sauna for its members. The Society has published papers, books and other items in different languages, and it issues a quarterly magazine in Finnish titled SAUNA. The Society also maintains a close cooperational relationship with the sauna industry.

The members belong to the Society on a personal basis. Enterprises may join as supporting members. The annual dues are confirmed at the general meeting of the members each fall for the following fiscal year.

President: Tuomas M.S. Lehtonen
